Hello! My name is Alejandra Valdez (I also go by Alex). I am enchanted by each person's humanity and uniqueness, deeply appreciating their individuality and inherent worth. I view the therapeutic process as an exciting journey into self-discovery, self-acceptance and self-love, which I firmly believe translates into deep and meaningful relationships. I am honored to accompany my clients as they explore the ways they want their life to unfold. I am passionate about supporting individuals and couples as they navigate life experiences, transitions and decisions. Working with individuals, couples and families who are experiencing an important loss through death, infidelity or illness and are navigating life through and after loss has added significance and meaning to my life.
My approach to therapy is relational and is centered in respect, honesty, warmth and healthy curiosity. I trust my clients' capacity for growth, the therapeutic process, and myself, always aiming to instill hope. Sessions with me can be both serious and light-hearted—I've found that humor has an important place in healing. My role is to journey alongside my clients, offering new possibilities and fresh perspectives while ensuring they feel truly seen and heard.
Born and raised in Mexico, I moved to the U.S. to pursue my passion for understanding human behavior at UCSD. Although I initially enjoyed a career in international business, I felt inspired to make a change, leading me to seek a Masters in Contemporary Gestalt Therapy in Mexico. To practice in the U.S., I earned a master's in clinical counseling and am now an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. To meet the varied needs of my clients, I am involved in ongoing training in a variety of approaches including: Gottman Couples Therapy, Developmental Model Couples Therapy, Complex Trauma Treatment, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems and Integrative Sex Therapy. My training and certifications enable me to see individuals, couples, and families through a relational lens as they struggle with life's everyday challenges, loss, grief, and complex trauma.
In my personal life, I love cycling, traveling, cooking, reading and playing board games with my family. I strive to lead a balanced life. I am married and have four young adult children. Both my clinical knowledge and my life experience offers me the unique ability to be present with you while you uncover the intricate layers of your emotions, thoughts, and experiences, guiding you toward healing and self-discovery.
