about Eliza
Associate Social Worker
I’m Eliza, and I’m an Associate Clinical Social Worker with a B.A. in Biopsychology from the University of Michigan and a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Pacific University. My path into this work started in the wilderness, literally. I spent a year and a half working with adolescents in wilderness therapy, moved into supporting young adults in a residential recovery setting, and later worked with teens and families through a community nonprofit in San Diego. My experiences in the therapy world have a common admiration for the resilience of individuals in difficult circumstances, and a belief that what looks like a problem is often a solution that’s outlived its usefulness.
I enjoy working with clients navigating:
- Trauma & PTSD
- Dependency & recovery
- Anxiety & depression
- Life transitions & identity development
- Relationship & attachment difficulties
- Grief & loss
- Adolescents, young adults & families
- & more
I work from the understanding that healing doesn’t always start in the mind, it often starts in the body. Our nervous systems are wired to protect us, and when we’ve been through hard things, those protective responses can take on a life of their own. My approach is trauma-informed and attachment-focused: building security and foundation in relationships emboldens us to face hurts and traumas that play out in our lives. The most lasting change happens when we can meet even the most difficult parts of ourselves with curiosity instead of judgment.
In our work together, we may utilize:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Brainspotting (Phase 1 trained)
- Somatic Approaches
- Attachment-Based Interventions
- Mindfulness-Based Practices
about Summer
Operations Manager
“Nothing ever really goes away until it has taught us what we need to know” ~ Pema Chödrön
Welcome, my name is Summer and I am an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor at GTSD. My clinical experience includes working with adults suffering from co-occurring mental health diagnoses in an intensive outpatient (IOP) level of care, as well as supporting at-risk adolescents in an after school program. It was in these roles I came to understand how various forms of trauma become integrated in our bodies and minds, and show up differently for each person throughout our lives.
I have worked with anxiety, depression, trauma (PTSD, abuse & neglect), shame & guilt, codependency, and anger. I have also worked with body-image stressors, 12-step programs, sexuality and gender-identity issues, career exploration, couples & family dynamics, children of divorce & dysfunctional households, and military veterans.
My therapeutic approach is based in openness, trust, curiosity, and cultural awareness. My goal is to help you break through the barriers that may be hindering your growth, and allow you to reconnect with yourself in the way that only you can truly discover. I believe that the connection between our psychological world and our physiological world is a key component of long lasting wellness. At a fundamental level, our brains are designed to protect us and every new experience we encounter imprints somewhere in our memory and in our body. Thus, the ways in which we respond to and cope with various stressors today are rooted in our learned experience from the past. It is when we build awareness, acceptance and compassion towards every part of ourselves that true healing (and change) begins.
In our work together, I may utilize concepts from Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Psychodynamic Theory, Jungian Shadow Work, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Inner Child Work, Somatic Approaches, Mindfulness & Meditation, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Internal Family Systems (IFS), or skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). I am also privileged to have had training in Gottman Couples Therapy, which is the only evidence-based couples therapy currently available.
In addition, I am the Operations Manager for GTSD. I work directly with the Client Relations Manager, Clinical Director, and Operational Director to oversee a fantastic team of dedicated intake coordinators and clinicians. From your initial intake call to your very last session, our purpose is to provide you with genuine care, support and guidance while you navigate the complexities of your healing journey.
As a North County native, there is nothing more rewarding than serving my local community. In my free time, you can find me walking the strand in Oceanside, paddle-boarding in the Carlsbad Lagoon, or hiking out in Elfin Forest. Whether it’s your first time trying therapy or you have been seeking support for many years, I am curious to hear your story, learn from your resilience, and witness you tap into your most authentic self. Come as you are and we will walk this path together.
Please call (619) 330-9500 or email intake@goodtherapysandiego.com to get scheduled with me or another therapist at GTSD!
