about katie

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant

Clinical Director and Oceanside-Carlsbad Therapist that provides EMDR Therapy and EMDR Consulting at Good Therapy San Diego.

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Catherine Brooks and I am the director and founder of Good Therapy San Diego. I am a Board Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience treating individuals and couples. I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work with specialized focus on children, youth and family. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral TherapyAcceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, EFT couples Therapy, and I am Advanced Trained in Gottman Couples Therapy. In addition, I am certified in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and I am a certified EMDR therapist and approved EMDR consultant to other therapists. I utilize EMDR for trauma, developmental trauma, treatment resistant depression and anxiety, and attachment issues.

Due to the vast knowledge I have gained working within the behavioral health field, I am fully aware of the complex nature of the human experience. I have vast experience within the geriatric community and I continue to treat this population. I led a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Partial Hospitalization Program treating adult and geriatric patients with DepressionAnxietyGriefTrauma, co-occurring Disorders, Eating disorders, and much more.

In addition, from my work with the Department of Children and Family Services, I have extensive experience in treating abuse and families in crisis. I earned a prestigious scholarship from the Inter-university Consortium Program for a one year paid internship with focus on intensive training in cultural diversity (including LGBTQI community), family dynamics, child abuse, chronic illness, grief, and domestic violence. I worked collaboratively with LAPD stabilizing hectic environments, investigating crime/abuse, and protecting at-risk children in immediate danger. I preformed crisis intervention with both parents and children, conducted risk and safety assessment of home, parents and environment, and managed custody disputes and child alienation cases.

Currently, I am the CEO and clinical director of Good Therapy San Diego and have a full time outpatient private practice. I specialize in DepressionAnxietyRelationship IssuesEating DisordersPostpartum Distress, and Trauma-Related Disorders. I specifically find great meaning in treating family members who have lost a parent or spouse to a trauma or chronic/terminal illness. Along with treating trauma, I provide professional clinical consultation to my peers, consultation for certification in EMDR, and supervision to interns/associates.

My mission at Good Therapy San Diego is to bridge the gap between mental and physical well-being, helping people reconnect with themselves and their lives in a more balanced, fulfilling way. I believe that true healing happens when mind, body, and spirit are aligned—and that when one person heals, it creates a ripple effect that positively impacts families, communities, and the world around us.

I truly love what I do. My greatest joy is helping people reconnect with themselves when life feels heavy or unclear. There’s something profoundly meaningful about sitting with someone as they face their pain, begin to see themselves differently, and slowly rediscover their sense of hope and joy. Those moments are why I do this work.

I feel deeply honored to be invited into my clients’ lives and grateful for the trust they place in me. If you’re struggling right now or simply feeling lost, please know, you don’t have to do this alone. Healing is possible, and we’re here to help you find your way back to yourself.

I look forward to meeting you soon!
