about katie
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
EMDR Certified Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Catherine Brooks and I am the director and founder of Good Therapy San Diego. I am a Board Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience treating individuals and couples. I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work with specialized focus on children, youth and family. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, EFT couples Therapy, and I am Advanced Trained in Gottman Couples Therapy. In addition, I am certified in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and I am a certified EMDR therapist and approved EMDR consultant to other therapists. I utilize EMDR for trauma, developmental trauma, treatment resistant depression and anxiety, and attachment issues.
Due to the vast knowledge I have gained working within the behavioral health field, I am fully aware of the complex nature of the human experience. I have vast experience within the geriatric community and I continue to treat this population. I led a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Partial Hospitalization Program treating adult and geriatric patients with Depression, Anxiety, Grief, Trauma, co-occurring Disorders, Eating disorders, and much more.
In addition, from my work with the Department of Children and Family Services, I have extensive experience in treating abuse and families in crisis. I earned a prestigious scholarship from the Inter-university Consortium Program for a one year paid internship with focus on intensive training in cultural diversity (including LGBTQI community), family dynamics, child abuse, chronic illness, grief, and domestic violence. I worked collaboratively with LAPD stabilizing hectic environments, investigating crime/abuse, and protecting at-risk children in immediate danger. I preformed crisis intervention with both parents and children, conducted risk and safety assessment of home, parents and environment, and managed custody disputes and child alienation cases.
Currently, I am the CEO and clinical director of Good Therapy San Diego and have a full time outpatient private practice. I specialize in Depression, Anxiety, Relationship Issues, Eating Disorders, Postpartum Distress, and Trauma-Related Disorders. I specifically find great meaning in treating family members who have lost a parent or spouse to a trauma or chronic/terminal illness. Along with treating trauma, I provide professional clinical consultation to my peers, consultation for certification in EMDR, and supervision to interns/associates.
My mission at Good Therapy San Diego is to bridge the gap between mental and physical well-being, helping people reconnect with themselves and their lives in a more balanced, fulfilling way. I believe that true healing happens when mind, body, and spirit are aligned—and that when one person heals, it creates a ripple effect that positively impacts families, communities, and the world around us.
I truly love what I do. My greatest joy is helping people reconnect with themselves when life feels heavy or unclear. There’s something profoundly meaningful about sitting with someone as they face their pain, begin to see themselves differently, and slowly rediscover their sense of hope and joy. Those moments are why I do this work.
I feel deeply honored to be invited into my clients’ lives and grateful for the trust they place in me. If you’re struggling right now or simply feeling lost, please know, you don’t have to do this alone. Healing is possible, and we’re here to help you find your way back to yourself.
I look forward to meeting you soon!

“Well I don’t really know how to start this. I am not the type of person to write a review, but Katie has had a big impact in my life, and the very least I can do is talk about how great she really is at what she does and as a person. I initially was not the type of person that believed much in counseling, or a therapist. But last year I found myself in a major slump, I had just come off surgery and was not able to do much for about a month or so and developed an anxiety issue. I then decided on pursuing counseling sessions to help me through this time in my life. I got lucky and found Katie through a Google search, she was extremely fast at responding and scheduled me the following week. My first impression of Katie is that of someone who is in love with life and truly enjoys what she does. She is smart, knows her shit, and is on top of her game. She’s welcoming, non judgmental and extremely positive. She has helped me through a rough time in my life, and for that I will forever be indebted to her. If your in the market for a therapist Katie is a must. I feel like I’m talking to an older sister that I never had, not a therapist. Katie is great!!!”
“Katie is a true expert in eating disorders, and her approach has gently guided me into healing from the inside out. Katie has helped me navigate the more subtle and deeply rooted sources that manifest in maladaptative eating patterns. Katie has helped me shift my mindset from food to focusing other areas of my life that require attention and care, which in turn has brought massive positive change to my life.”
“I’m really glad and grateful that my sister found Katie Brooks by Google search! I was at the lowest point in my life, and going to Katie for counseling was the best thing I have ever done for my health. After struggling for a year with depression, I got out of it in a couple of weeks with weekly sessions. I have regained previous passions that I forgot about the past year, and I feel like my life is back on track. I am HAPPY again! Katie truly listens to what you have to say and will only give reasonable, logical, and helpful advice to any of your concerns. I could tell her anything without feeling judged, and only positive things came out of trusting her as my counselor. Her positive demeanor only gave me hope and actually rubbed off on me! I would refer her to anyone that needs someone to talk to about something they are struggling with, etc. She’s amazing!”
“Katie is a phenomenal therapist. Her clinical skills and professionalism are supplemented by her warmth, compassion, and dedication to her clients. My experience working with her has been spectacular. During each meeting, I was acutely aware of her concern for my well being. I know in my heart that our work together has been of sound quality and genuineness. Katie is always certain to exhaust every resource that she believes will promote life enrichment. When we first began collaborating, I was in a state of deep emotional pain. Following several weeks of work, my depression dissipated to a manageable degree, and I began exploring new sources of happiness. Ultimately, our work has been a staple in my recovery. I highly recommend Katie, and confidently encourage all potential clients to seek out her services.”
“Have worked with Katie and Good Therapy San Diego for over 2 years now. I can’t say enough good things about the therapy that I received. I was lost and angry. Katie listened and tailored each session to focus on the root causes, to help me settle and heal my wounds. Good Therapy San Diego has allowed me to be present for my family and enjoy the next chapter in my life.”
“Katie truly has a gift for what she does. There is not much of a better way to say it. I have worked with her for the past 6 months through some transitions in my life and she has been immensely helpful. Through that time, I have appreciated that she is incredibly smart, insightful, knowledgeable about many areas of psychology, wonderful at parenting help, open minded and just always appropriately positive.”
“I’ve been seeing Katie for 5 months now and WOW what a difference she’s made in my life. Though her knowledge and expertise I’ve been able to work through some pretty challenging experiences. I’ve never had such a trusting experience with a therapist before Katie, she’s always made me feel comfortable even during the most difficult times. I’ve been able to really start healing the scars from my past and that has really made a big difference on how I feel about myself. Katie is a excellent therapist and I feel very lucky I found her.”
“Katie has been an invaluable resource to me. She has been my therapist for years now, sometimes weekly, sometimes just for monthly check-ins. I cannot express how relieving it is to have her accompany me through the life transitions and life lessons I’ve experienced during our time together. She’s a joy to work with, her skills as a clinician are top-knotch, and I trust her implicitly.”
“Katie has been a lifeline during my divorce over the last 2 years. The talented team of therapists at Good Therapy provide compassionate and empathetic care. They are excellent, perceptive listeners and provide skilled, targeted techniques to help their patients recover and thrive. If not for the attentive, empathetic care of Katie and Good Therapy, I would have stalled out and stewed in despair. Instead, I have been able to make healthy progress, achieve understanding and perspective, and move forward with my life. I can see lightness now thanks to my therapy and owe GT and Katie all credit for keeping the darkness at bay. Time in therapy is the best decision I could have made for myself, and I wish I had called Good Therapy even sooner.”
“Katie was born to do what she does. She has genuinely changed my entire perspective on life by taking off my negative ‘goggles’ and replacing them with positive ones. She has pulled me out of such a dark place and rut into truly a new life. I’ve laughed, I’ve cried, I’ve ranted and vented my insecurities and life to Katie and I couldn’t feel more comfortable doing so. Since being in therapy with Katie, I utilize the skills and knowledge she teaches me to every day activities and experiences and it has changed my life for the better in so many ways. Life throws you curve balls yet with Katie, she helps me through the bad and the good, by emphasizing my good, and helping me learn from my bad. Every single time I leave Katie’s I have a sigh of relief that my week is just going to be so much better, and it is.
Katie’s bubbly, positive, honest, funny, just genuinely happy and you can tell that she absolutely loves what she does, as it shows through her work ethic and expertise.
She is always a text, email, or even phone call away. I am possibly moving to New York soon and I insist that I keep my services with her hopefully via Skype. She is extremely flexible with my schedule and I genuinely feel so blessed to have found her as someone I would consider more of a friend than a therapist. I have already HIGHLY recommended her services to many of my friends, young and elderly. I am walking proof that Katie changes lives and only for the best.”
“When I first found Katie it was like pulling teeth to get me to come as I think many people are reluctant to give therapy a go. I had worked with a psychologist previously who passed away followed by another psychologist who was extremely critical. However, working with Katie has been a divine intervention of sorts. If I could describe Katie in a few short words it would be loving, non-judgemental and caring. I’ve never met anyone in my life aside from my husband that truly has the best intentions and is completely full of light and love. I’ve been going to Katie for a little over 6 months and she has completely changed my life, in the fact that’s helped me open the tools that were inside of me. When I first met Katie I was working a corporate job miserable, my marriage was a wreck and I wanted to get a divorce as my husband and I had been living in different states for almost 2 years and had a rocky relationship with my mother. Pretty much, I hit rock bottom, if you will. Through working with Katie I’ve been able to find a greater purpose in life, reconnect with my husband and ultimately live the life I’ve always envisioned. I couldn’t imagine where I’d be if I never walked into Katie’s office 7 months ago as she is truly the saving grace for my husband and I’s marriage. I’ll forever be grateful for the work Katie and I have done and would highly recommend seeing her if you just feel like giving up because, the truth is there is light at the end of the tunnel sometime’s you just need help getting there.“
