about Lee
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
It’s a profound and courageous decision to embark on the path of self-discovery and personal growth. As we navigate the complexities of life, we often encounter challenges that can leave us feeling overwhelmed, fragmented or disconnected. But rest assured, you are not alone.
Welcome, fellow traveler, on this transformative journey to wholeness. I’m Lee Carini, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 15 years of experience treating individual adults, couples, and families.
I am passionate about working with others to cultivate self awareness, tap into inherent strengths, and grow capacity for connection through mindfulness and intuition. I believe total wellness is only possible when one is able to achieve balance mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically, and is living in harmony with nature. This belief guides the holistic and integrated approach I take. I work from an eclectic, people-centered approach drawing on skills found in positive psychology (gratitude, strength-based), mind-body, eco psychology (mindfulness/meditation, nature therapy), breath work, transpersonal therapy (exploring spirituality and transcendent experiences), solution-focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.
I am fortunate to have practiced in a wide range of clinical settings including multiple treatment centers, inpatient and outpatient psychiatric units at hospitals, and over 10 years in the Psychiatry Medicine department at Kaiser Permanente. In addition to working with individuals, I have designed and led ongoing therapy groups including Meditation/Mindfulness, Postpartum Wellness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Communication Skills (Assertiveness/Boundaries), and Intensive Outpatient Programs for chronic mental health issues. Drawing upon my extensive training and experience, I’ve utilized evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, perinatal mental health, grief and loss, trauma, emotional eating, body image issues, and chronic mental health diagnoses such as Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder.
I earned a Master of Arts in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy from Chapman University after receiving an undergraduate degree from San Diego State University. I am passionate about learning and continually participating in educational opportunities regarding effective treatment practices. Some of the unique coursework I have completed includes animal assisted therapy (AAT) through University of Colorado, Science of Spirituality through Columbia University, Foundations of Science of Mind through Centers for Spiritual Living, workshops on primordial sound meditation and Ayurvedic medicine through Chopra Foundation, and I am privileged to have had training in Gottman Couples Therapy, which is the only evidence-based couples therapy currently available. In addition to working as a therapist over the past 15 years, I have taught undergraduate psychology courses and led artistic workshops.
It’s common to feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve us. Recognizing the need for change and growth is a significant step towards breaking free from those patterns, reconnecting with your authentic self, and embracing a more fulfilling life. In therapy, we can explore these patterns together, gently examining their origins and understanding how they may have served a purpose in the past. By bringing awareness to these patterns, we can begin to create space for new perspectives and possibilities.
It is my privilege to hold space for your transformation. On this journey, we will embrace both the light and the shadows, recognizing that growth often emerges from the depths of vulnerability and discomfort. In this therapeutic space, there is no judgment, only empathy and acceptance. Cultural sensitivity and inclusivity are core values in my practice. I respect and honor the diversity of backgrounds, identities, and experiences. My aim is to create a safe and inclusive environment where you feel seen, heard, and valued. Together, we will navigate this transformative journey, empowering you to release what no longer serves and reclaim a more deeply fulfilling and authentic life.

Recent Reviews
"I have been working with Lee for a few months and it has made all the difference, I forgot how helpful is it to talk to someone who is unbiased and full of helpful tips and skills. I originally started seeing Lee because of a specific incident but have continued to see her to work on other parts of myself that could use some improvement. Lee always makes me feel heard and validated but also makes me view and think about situations from different angles that I normally wouldn’t. I look forward to continuing to work with Lee to change habits and break out of my safety zone that I created. Would highly recommend Lee to anyone looking for that little bit of extra help."
