about Morgan
Associate Social Worker
Hi there, my name is Morgan and I am an Associate Social Worker at GTSD. My therapeutic approach focuses on the power of a healing relationship amongst two people. That’s exactly why it is so important to find the right therapist for you! I consider myself a body-based, experiential, and generalist practitioner – meaning I rely on the innate, adaptive capabilities of your body and mind, drawing from several different modalities, to help guide you towards a sense of peace, healing, fulfillment and connectedness. I have experience treating folks struggling with anxiety, depression, major life transitions, grief & loss, family and relationship issues, substance misuse, sexual and gender identity, fat stigma, parenting, trauma/neglect, chronic health issues, and more. If this sounds like you, I don’t think you found GTSD by accident.
I received a dual Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Political Science from Western Colorado University and a Master of Social Work from University of Denver to help prepare me to treat folks from all walks of life. My work is by nature filled with cultural humility, compassion, and informed companionship. My clinical experience includes supporting teens in the school based setting, serving on four distinct inpatient psychiatric hospital units including adolescents, adults, patients experiencing medicated detox, and military & first responders. I have also spent a year working in a residential mental health program providing integrated therapy services to adults suffering with anxiety, depression, psychosis, mood disorders, personality disorders, substance use, and complex trauma. I have a firm grasp on our mental health system, and strive to be a grounding force and preventative practitioner. In more recent years, I have been trained and specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and utilize it to help clients experience shifts in their nervous system, process through disturbing events, and re-integrate memories with a new perspective and more positive belief about oneself.
Everyone’s reason for coming to therapy is different – and I am so glad that you are here. In our work together, I will assist you in developing insight into the ways in which your life experiences and mental health have led to dis-ease, discomfort and dysfunction in your life and relationships. Equipped with this knowledge, we can explore ways of increasing your capacity to cope and resource resiliency in the face of life’s challenges. To do so, I will draw from evidenced-based therapeutic methods including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), somatic therapies, EMDR, as well as art, narrative, and attachment-focused modalities. Originally from the Rocky Mountains, I also draw from nature as a profound source of teaching and healing. Your goals are my goals, and I look forward to hearing what you want for your life and giving you the tools and skills to make that a reality.
When I am not in the office, you’ll find me on the trails with my one-eyed border collie Zeus, camping, doing Peloton workouts in my living room, playing in the ocean, or on my quest to find the best macaroni and cheese in San Diego.
I became a therapist because I want to walk alongside people in their darkest moments. It is a privilege to learn your pain and help you see that there is relief, comfort, and joy on the other side of it. My philosophy is that the universe bends towards people taking care of themselves, but that they might need a gentle guiding hand alongside them. You have already done the hardest part in initiating the therapy process and you are in safe hands – allow GTSD to do the rest 🙂
