Millicent Sykes, APCC #10465
My name is Millicent Sykes and I am a therapist, writer, former athlete, and avid art enthusiast. Recently, I worked exclusively with people with severe mental illnesses and co- occurring disorders. This experience allotted the opportunity to observe and support people at their lowest point in life. Considering quality of life, work-life balance, and an acknowledgment of functionality and fulfillment of needs, I collected expertise centered around what is needed to be an aligned, successful human being. As I transition from the hospital to private practice, my aim is to best support you with stressors, relationship issues, and any factors which create a barrier between you and your best life.
My therapeutic orientation has an emphasis on attachment style, boundaries, and methods of communication. I focus on therapeutic interventions--such as mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotional expression, and identifying maladaptive coping strategies--in hopes of uncovering aspects of your individuality which may hinder connection and motivation. In addition, I have had the privilege to be trained in Gottman Couples Therapy, which is the only evidence-based couples therapy currently available. Through this work I can teach you the skills you need to resolve conflicts, improve your friendship/ intimacy, and build upon your commitment and trust. Looking forward to meeting you and helping you orient to your aspirations and dreams, while healing the pain accumulated during your human experience.
Please call (619) 330-9500 or email [email protected] to get scheduled with me or another therapist at GTSD!
